Yuja Wang joins the London Symphony Orchestra and Michael Tilson Thomas for this concert filmed in the orchestra's second London home, LSO St Luke's. She performs Shostakovich's playful Piano Concerto No. 2 – a work of unusual high spirits, composed especially for his son Maxim and presented to him for his 19th birthday. To complete the programme, Tilson Thomas presents a touching postcard from America in Copland's Our Town as well as Tchaikovsky's rousing Second Symphony, which incorporates Ukrainian folk melodies to thrilling effect – particularly in the roller coaster finale.
