Album insights

"Land of Gold" by Anoushka Shankar is a powerful musical journey, where she explores a spectrum of emotions on the sitar, blending elements from classical Indian styles, jazz, electronica, and minimalism. This emotional depth is further heightened by the collaboration with talented instrumentalists and guest artists, including her husband Joe Wright, a renowned film director. The production of the album also benefits from the cinematic sounds crafted by producer Matt Robertson, known for his work with artists like Björk. Anoushka Shankar's partners on this musical venture include Manu Delago, known for his skill with the Hang, and Sanjeev Shankar, a master of the Shehnai. Noteworthy guest appearances on the album include M.I.A., Alev Lenz, Larry Grenadier, Akram Khan, Caroline Dale, and Vanessa Redgrave, who passionately recites Pavana Reddy's poem in "Remain the Sea". The album also features the debut of the Girls for Equality choir on the closing track, "Reunion".
