Album insights

The 7th Symphony by Anton Bruckner, worked on from 1881 to 1883, stands out as one of the most renowned and exquisite pieces of the Romantic era. Renowned conductors such as Bruno Walter, Otto Klemperer, Riccardo Chailly, Herbert von Karajan, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sergiu Celibidache, and Nicolaus Harnoncourt have continuously strived to captivate audiences and critics alike with their performances and recordings of this significant late Romantic symphony. Recorded here by Daniel Barenboim, this rendition marks a milestone in the series of numerous recordings and in Barenboim's extensive Bruckner cycle with the Staatskapelle Berlin in June 2010. Following the deeply profound and dramatic interpretation by Barenboim at the concert, a 13-minute uninterrupted applause from an enthusiastic audience erupted. The press described this magical event as "[Barenboim's] Bruckner is conceived and performed in a highly theatrical manner, akin to an opera without words" (Der Tagesspiegel). The grand orchestral passages have an electrifying effect, as if witnessing the rapid construction of a Gothic cathedral (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).
