Víkingur Ólafsson returns to his home audience at Reykjavík’s Harpa to present a live performance of repertoire from his celebrated fourth album on Deutsche Grammophon, devoted to Mozart and his contemporaries. In a characteristically imaginative programme, the pianist places celebrated works by Mozart – the Fantasia in D minor, the “Sonata facile” and the late Adagio in B minor – alongside lesser-known music by C. P. E. Bach, Haydn, Galuppi and Cimarosa, weaving them into a vivid picture of the period. That picture is further enriched by arrangements by Liszt and Ólafsson himself, while spoken introductions from the stage add to the recital’s sense of intimacy and immediacy.
