Grigory Sokolov The acclaimed piano virtuoso Grigory Sokolov presents a new live recording featuring works by Purcell and Mozart.
Throughout the 2022/23 season, Sokolov focused exclusively on the works of these two composers, performing a total of 70 concerts with this program. The album impressively blends Purcell's ostinatos, melodies, and dance pieces with Mozart's classical piano compositions, revealing their shared qualities of grace and melancholy. The recording combines two separate concerts from Spain in August 2023: the first part, featuring Purcell's works, was recorded at the Festival Internacional in Santander, while the Mozart interpretations come from the Quincena Music Festival in San Sebastián.
