Kurtág 100 – Birthday Concert with Víkingur Ólafsson

Streaming live from Budapest, this concert marks the 100th birthday of a living legend of contemporary music: György Kurtág, with Grammy-winning Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson – Müpa Budapest’s Artist of the Season – at its centre. Ólafsson maintains a close working relationship with Kurtág, as was reflected in his 2022 album "From Afar", and several of Kurtág's now-iconic Bach arrangements bookend the programme, performed on both grand and upright pianos. The remaining programme traces key milestones of Kurtág’s output, from chamber-music intimacy through to the monumentality of Stele, performed by the Danubia Orchestra under Markus Stenz with a hand-picked team of soloists.
