The best-known encore at the Berliner Philharmoniker's season-ending concert at the Waldbühne is Paul Lincke's "Berliner Luft". It is not every day, however, that the top orchestra gives encore after encore. In 2002, under the baton of Mariss Jansons and together with violinist Vadim Repin, the orchestra presents an evening-long programme made up exclusively of encores. The evening includes works for solo violin by Wieniawski, Paganini and Kreisler, opera music by Wagner, Massenet and Mascagni, as well as popular pieces for New Year's concerts by Ziehrer and Lumbye. With virtuosity and wit, Vadim Repin makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in the idyllic setting of Berlin's Waldbühne.
