Pollini Plays Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos. 19 & 23
Maurizio Pollini recorded many times with the Wiener Philharmoniker and veteran conductor Karl Böhm. Their shared discography includes concertos by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. In this performance, filmed in the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein in the spring of 1976, they present together two of favourite piano concertos by Mozart: No. 19 in F Major, K. 459, one of the six concertos the composer produced in 1784 for his own series of subscription concerts and a work full of wit, innovation and brilliance; and Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488, completed two months before the premiere of Le nozze di Figaro.
