From the lavish Baroque surroundings of Schloß Hetzendorf in southwest Vienna, Mischa Maisky and the Wiener Symphoniker present Haydn's Violin Concerto in G major – plus the Adagio of the Violin Concerto in C – in arrangements for cello and orchestra. Dating from the 1760s, both works reflect Haydn's style at is most sparkling and immediately appealing. And they retain all those qualities in their cello guise, especially as performed here.
