Waldbühne 1998: Latin American Night – with Daniel Barenboim

Berliner Philharmoniker

The Spanish-speaking musical world – from the Iberian peninsula to South America – is particularly close to Argentine-born Daniel Barenboim's heart. In this atmospheric Berliner Philharmoniker concert from the Waldbühne in summer 1998, though, we begin with famous works in which two Frenchmen filter Spain through a Gallic lens: Ravel's Boléro and Bizet's Carmen. Then Guitarist John Williams joins as soloist in Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez before a series of numbers take us to the heart of Argentina and the Buenos Aires Tango scene, with Barenboim taking his place at the piano as bandmaster.
